Media Studies is a very well established subject at SJL and we offer a range of courses including A level, 14-19 Creative and Media Diploma, GCSE and BTEC. We have a Media Arts Specialist status and, as well as being recognised as a leader in media education regionally, we were awarded a certificate for the best results for girls at A level Media Studies last year.
Our examination results have been consistently high for years and we achieve highly compared to the national average.
We have an excellent team of media teachers and other specialist media staff on board; together we are well qualified to teach both the theoretical and practical skills required for the subject.
SJL has state of the art media production facilities including more than 40 Apple Macintosh computers as well as professional standard TV studio with a control room and ‘computer generated virtual sets’ capabilities. In addition, we have a substantial range of location production equipment and a cinema space. All of our students have free access to the equipment and gain a lot of ‘hands-on’ experience, borrowing equipment to travel to a range of off-site locations.
SJL students produce on average more than 100 video productions each year, and some, as well as some of our schemes of work, have been used by the exam boards as exemplar material.
Quite a few of our past students have gone on to exciting careers in the media world, working for renowned institutions such as ITV and The Guardian. One past student is even working as an editor of an American magazine in New York City!
