Health and Social Care BTEC (Level 3) National Diploma  at Roundwood Park         Board:  Edexcel

Introduction

This is a work related course that enables the learner to achieve UCAS points equivalent to 2 ‘A’ Levels.

The course is suitable for learners wanting to progress further towards a relevant sector role, including job roles accessed through higher education. Possible job roles include: nursery teacher, nurse, midwife and social worker.

Learning is based on a mixture of different class room activities and work experience.

Learners undertake 100 hours of work experience divided between three different placements. Learners organise their own placements in discussion with teaching staff. Learners gain knowledge and skills important to working in these sectors.

Course Content

By the end of the course, learners complete 12 units:

  3. Health, Safety and Security
  4. Development Through the Life Stages
  5. Anatomy and Physiology
  6. Personal and Professional Development
  7. Sociological Perspectives
  8. Psychological Perspectives
  9. Caring for Children and Young People
  10. Physiological Disorders
  11. Research Methodology
  12. Caring for Older People

Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the 2 year. In order to complete a unit, students must complete an assignment set by teaching staff, covering the learning outcomes for the unit. Each unit will be graded as pass, merit or distinction and given unit points, depending on how well the learning outcomes are achieved. The total number of unit points will determine the overall grading, also based on a pass, merit or distinction.

Course requirement: 

Five GCSE’s grade A*-C, including English and Maths – but also a B grade in other A level choices. An interest in health care, social care and early years sectors. Pass police safety checks, as required for work experience.
