AS - Physical Geography:

  • Rivers, floods and management;
  • Hot desert environments and their margins.

AS - Human Geography, 2 from:

  • Global population change;
  • Health issues.

The above topics are assessed in a 1 hour paper which is worth 70% of the total AS/35% of the total A level.

AS - Applied Geography

  • Basic, investigative, ICT, graphical, cartographical and statistical skills;
  • Research skills and the assessment of AS fieldwork.

The above topics are assessed in a 2 hour paper which is worth 30% of the total AS/15% of the total A level.

A2 - Contemporary Geographical Issues:

  • Plate tectonics and associated hazards;
  • Weather and climate and associated hazards;
  • World cities - evolution or revolution?;
  • Contemporary conflicts and challenges.

The above topics are assessed in a 2 hour paper which is worth 30% of the total A level.

A2 - Geography Issue Evaluation:

The above topic is assessed in a 1 and a half hour paper which is worth 20% of the total A level. The assessment is based on evaluation of relevant Geographical issues in a pre-release booklet.

Fieldwork, including a residential trip, is an essential part of Geography AS level and this will equip you for your Applied Geography paper and individual studies for which you need the ability and commitment to work independently.
