Introduction

Board: AQA Spec B

If you are enthusiastic about reading, enjoy discussion and want to learn more about human beings and their relationships then you will enjoy A level English Literature.

Although English Literature is often perceived as one of the most challenging subjects at A level, this is because it stretches an individual's capacity to engage intellectually, emotionally and critically with texts from a range of contexts. It is also a fascinating subject.

The study of Literature will test your ability to build on the ideas of others against your own sense of integrity and independent thought. You will also explore the craft of the author and consider different aspects of narrative that inform their writing; inevitably your own skills of written communication will be improved.

You will be taught by excellent teachers who are passionate about their subject and who will deliver a breadth and depth of texts that will satisfy any appetite for reading.

So, if you like a challenge and are ready to engage in some lively discussion about events, characters and themes spanning 4000 years then English Literature A Level is certainly for you.
