Introduction

Board: EdExcel (To be confirmed)

If you enjoy acting, visiting the theatre and researching texts and their contexts then this course is for you! A Level Drama and Theatre studies is a dynamic and practical course that explores play scripts and devising theatre through acting, directing and designing for the stage. In our newly refurbished Drama Theatre and Drama / Dance studio with state of the art lighting and sound facilities you will able to practically explore texts, practitioners and ideas in vibrant and exciting new spaces. During the course students are taken to at least three productions of plays ranging from The Woman in Black and Warhorse to Twelfth Night and Mother Courage in order to build up their cultural reference points and evaluative skills. In the past there have been visits to The Globe Theatre, community theatre projects linking with Primary Schools as well as two practical exams testing candidates’ ability to act in a play, devise a group project and work on a duologue. The course builds on the experience of GCSE Drama and is ideal for those interested in careers in the Arts and Media or working in the caring professions.

As a Drama student you will be attractive to future employers/tutors and Universities because you will have shown that you can work effectively as part of a team, have initiative and self-motivation combined with self-confidence and an ability to express yourself creatively and reflectively.
