Introduction

Board: WJEC

Design and Technology offers a challenging mixture of academic and practical pursuits involving you in a wide range of enjoyable activities that develop your creative, intellectual and making abilities.

The course is primarily taught through a series of projects and you will be exposed to a wide range of materials and processes. You will produce high quality portfolio work and well engineered/crafted practical projects that demonstrate your increased understanding of design theory.

You will share in discussions and learning based around the wider world of technology and products their impact on people, their design and manufacture.

One of the unique qualities of Design and Technology is the opportunity to work on extended pieces of work often lasting a number of weeks/months, on projects that you have identified yourself. This is very enjoyable, challenging and liberating, allowing you the time to develop your own unique style and solutions to design problems.

If you are interested in working with materials, learning about their properties and enjoy applying yourself to designing and making high quality products, then you may wish to consider AS or A level Design and Technology.
