Specification: AQA
Biology involves the study of a wide range of exciting topics, ranging from molecular biology to the study of ecosystems and from micro organisms to mammoths. Biology is never far from the headlines and is a constantly changing and fascinating world. The new A level biology course is designed to encourage candidates to develop enthusiasm for biology, whilst learning and improving practical skills which can be backed up with scientific understanding and application.
It is essential that you achieve a B grade or higher in Additional Science or Biology GCSE. This course leads on extremely well from the triple science GCSE award. You will be required to complete some summer reading if you have taken the Additional Science GCSE, to ensure that you are prepared for the jump to A level Biology. You should also have achieved a grade B or higher in Maths at GCSE. It would be useful to study Chemistry alongside Biology, but it is not essential.
Biology is a great choice of subject for people who want a career in health and medical professions, such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, physiotherapy, pharmacy, optometry, nursing, zoology, marine biology or forensic sciences.
